Home About

choonfish verb The act of finding a piece of music / song / or tune (choon) that you liked in a film, after having just recently seen or watched it.

For the more determined person: the random, unpredictable nature of attempting to capture that particular creature, across rivers of sources, websites, and Apps, requires a patience and skill arguably comparable to that of Fishing - hence the derivative name.
Example: After having just completed mapping out the song references in Peter Jackson’s epic monster film (so you could choonfish more efficiently), one could say King Kong just got choonfished!1

choonfish.org is an independent Film Music Research Project founded in Glasgow, Scotland and currently based in London.

It aims to be the most definitive mapping of Music used in Film (score, incidental, commercial songs) anywhere, online and in print.

The project seeks to distinguish itself from endeavours of a similar nature by:

  1. the use of Statistics (based on Facts & Figures rather than Ratings and Opinion)
  2. the absence of Tracking and Cookies of ANY kind, including Google Analytics
  3. having an academic / journalistic approach to fully referenced Data Collection, and consequently:
  4. retrieving the raw data of film strictly from Primary Sources (the Credit Sequences of Films as they appear on DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital Media),
and never lifted from online material or secondary sources.

An effort has been made to meticulously acquire this information personally, over an extended period of time.
This website is a labour of love, and something I am particularly passionate about!
